Insects and other small critters are among my favorite things to photograph. I looked out the door the other morning and spied an Eastern Lubber Grasshopper on my front stoop. Reviewing the photos I took of it inspired me to share some of my other favorite shots of those who are part of the small world.
You can find more of my photography in my Flickr photostream.
Ant tending what I believe is an aphid farm. Yes, some ants do farm aphids as a ready source of food.
Crane Fly
Dragonfly
Eastern Lubber Grasshopper – my recent visitor.
Imperial Moth Larva
Itsy Bitsy Spider – it was extremely tiny and very much aware of me and my camera.
Ladybug pupal stage – I was fortunate enough to observe the full ladybug life cycle one year, from the eggs through to the emergence of the adults.
Mexican sunflower with ? – I’m not sure if this is a bee, a wasp or one of the species of fly that mimics a wasp.
Milkweed Bugs – adult and nymph in the same shot.
Southern Flannel Moth Larva (Puss Caterpillar) – Or use your imagination… 🙂
Spiny-backed Orb Weaver – also very tiny. I have these all over my yard every year.
Stunning photos

Some insects seem to be some of the most alien looking creatures imaginable. Especially that last one. WEIRD!

Hi Karen! Thanks so much for reading my last post. You have great pictures posted here and I’m so glad to see you have a Flickr account! I will have to check them out because these are lovely nature shots! Do you use a macro lens for these insect photos? I look forward to seeing more of your work on there, I’m Felicia Farrah by the way 🙂 Keep up your great work!
