When Homer Jackson hung the I DUNNO sign in the window of his diner, Homer’s Haven, he never thought it would spark a nationwide movement in support of ignorance. “All I was trying to do,” he says, “is to get people to stop asking me what I thought. Truth is, I don’t think much about anything. Long as business is okay and I have some free time to hang out with the guys, I don’t much care about anything else. Why should I waste my friggin’ time trying to learn about all that other stuff people are always squawking about? I don’t know and I don’t care.” But Mr. Jackson’s small protest struck a chord with many of his customers. Business at Homer’s Haven doubled within a few months. He soon found himself selling I DUNNO buttons and bumper stickers along with plain old food. Pictures of his sign hit the web and went viral. A movement was born.
You carry
a huge black piano
through the streets.
It fell from the sky.
You caught it
and did not
crumple
like the cat
you once saw in a cartoon.
You caught it
and stayed straight.
You carry it home
each day.
I often like to use my photo art to tell a story of one sort or another. The story’s details, of course, are up to each viewer. 😉

You’ve come back
to the rooms of our house
where speech died
and a breathing stone filled our bed.
“I have all these bags,” she says. “From all these places.”
We are sitting in the courtyard outside the Zenlight Coffee Shop, enjoying the morning sun and sipping our coffee drinks. Mine is an Americano, hot water and espresso. Hers is fancier, flavored syrup with espresso and lots of swirly whipped cream on top. The courtyard is set back from the street, bordered by planters filled with the burgeoning foliage that our subtropical climate nurtures everywhere. Through the open metal work of the round table top, I can see a small lizard clinging to one of the curved legs.
It was getting hot that did it,
the way the sweat gathered at the back
of her neck and between her thighs,
how the sun stayed in the sky
day after day
so that only her tears would dry.
Among my favorite subjects are butterflies and assorted insects and spiders. Viewing these creatures through the lens has given me a new respect for the complexity of their lives. And in the case of spiders, has allowed me to overcome the fear of my younger years. I typically use a zoom lens to catch the butterflies and my kit lens with an 11 mm extension tube for some of the other insects. I’m a photographer of opportunity who likes to stroll about to see whatever I can see. So I tend to avoid the tripod or sitting in one place waiting for something to happen.
The images in this group have all been manipulated in various ways. Some with only a texture applied, some more heavily manipulated.

At Rest – Dragonfly resting on a fence at the park
A female coyote, full-grown, was captured at a service station
on Division Street and taken to the Animal Care Facility on
Western Avenue.
A man up north keeps seven buffalo in an enclosure next to his
lumberyard. They gather in a woolly mass by the highway and
watch cars. Buffalo are also kept in a park at the local center
for atomic research.
